Dance Department Friday Forum: Whirling Return of the Ancestors with Professor Henry Drewal

The Dance department welcomes Evjue-Bascom Professor Henry Drewal, curator of Whirling Return of the Ancestors, a dynamic, multi-sensorial exhibition of the rich and varied artistry of Egúngún masquerades and other arts inspired by a tradition that honors and celebrates the power and eternal presence of ancestors among Yorùbá peoples of West Africa. Drewal will bring a troupe of masqueraders from Ọ̀yọ́tunji Village, South Carolina to perform in the H'Doubler Performance Space.

On Fridays during the academic year, the Dance Department presents a dance or arts-related forum, bringing the UW-Madison community and the local community presentations, panel discussions, auditions, showings, and much more.

On April 6, the department welcomes Evjue-Bascom Professor Henry Drewal, curator of Whirling Return of the Ancestors, a dynamic, multi-sensorial exhibition of the rich and varied artistry of Egúngún masquerades and other arts inspired by a tradition that honors and celebrates the power and eternal presence of ancestors among Yorùbá peoples of West Africa. The Dance Department's Friday Forums are free, unticketed, open to the public in the Margaret H'Doubler Performance Space at 3:30 p.m.
