Documentary from alum Kornblatt to premiere at Julien Dubuque International Film Festival

A documentary from UW-Madison alumnus Marc Kornblatt, "What I Did In Fifth Grade," will have its world premiere at the Julien Dubuque (Iowa) International Film Festival later this month.

Kornblatt received his undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from UW-Madison's School of Education in 2001. Kornblatt retired from the classroom following the 2014-15 academic year after a 16-year second career as a teacher. He now devotes more time to filmmaking.

What I Did in Fifth GradeKornblatt's film, “What I did in Fifth Grade,” is a feature-length documentary that follows Kornblatt and his students during an entire year, his last as a teacher.  The film also features Heidi Becker, a recent UW-Madison School of Education graduate who served as Kornblatt’s student teacher during the fall semester.

The film will premiere on Thursday, April 21 at 2 p.m. and will be screened a second time on Saturday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m. Watch the trailer here.

Another film of Kornblatt’s, "Still 60," will be playing at the Wisconsin Film Festival on Friday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art and on Sunday, April 17 at 5:45 p.m. in the Chazen Museum of Art. For more information, click here.
